What is a learning journey?
A learning journey is a curated collection of learning content, both formal and informal, that can be used to acquire skills for a specific role or address a development plan. When you start adopting the learning journey modality, you can track the progress of learners vs the desired outcome.
Why is a learning journey important?
There is an aspiration to create a lasting impact on organizations with each learning intervention. In order to retain the learning, several factors need to be met. Learning needs to be convincing, the new knowledge has to be relevant, and direct application after the knowledge must be planned before hand to ensure that the learner is fully equipped for that lasting impact.
Challenges facing learning retention
Learning journey design process
It is an iterative process that requires several interactions until we reach the optimum solution together with our customers.
-
1
Understand
The first step in creating a learning journey is understanding. Here, we explore all the borderlines of the upcoming journey. Who are we designing for? What are the competencies we are focusing on? And most importantly, what does success look like?
-
2
Clarify
In this step, every single tiny detail gets clarified. We look at the work situations that you would like to change, clarify the behavioral elements, and link the learning outcomes to business KPIs and business strategy.
-
3
Prototype & Propose
After all the data gathering is done, we build the first iteration of what this journey would look like. This a co-creation process. As a customer, your input and feedback in this stage are more than crucial for the success of the entire learning journey.
-
4
Design & Develop
There is no one size fits all. This design is yours, and now is the time we incorporate all the data from the previous steps in a learning journey that is customized for you.
-
5
Execute & Measure
With all the details in place, now is the time to meet the learners and start our deliveries. Within each step, we are keen on measuring that the learning is being delivered properly and will be applied at the workplace.
-
6
Sustain
Sustainability of the learning is key, and a lot of applications and on-the-job assignments are put in place to ensure that the learning is practical and results in real behavioral change.
Features
Gamification
There is a false perception that gamification is the same as experiential learning or team buildings. However, gamification is the incorporation of game elements in non-gaming contexts. We use game elements, such as leader boards and scoring systems, in learning journeys to increase the interaction with the learners over a long period of time.
Multifaceted learning experience
Learning could be acquired in many ways. Within a learning journey, learners get exposed to videos, articles, case studies, and activities to embed the learning, and not only to information given to them from their trainer.
Peer to peer learning
Sharing the learning with peers outside the learning journey is one of the ways where learners get to present their learning to others and study it at the same time
Group project
Application to the real world supports in making the learnt skills and behaviors part of the new norm for the learners
Psychometric assessments
This is a measurement tool used to assess the level of a skill or a behavior and support in building next actions accordingly
